The Domain Name System (DNS) service allows to access websites and receive other services online using the domain names. Because of the operation of the DNS, you do not have to know the IP addresses that are difficult to memorise because DNS links IP addresses with domain names.
If you do not have your DN server or do not use DNS servers of the enterprise providing you with hosting services, you can use the domains.lt name servers in which you can specify the required DNS records.
The following types of DNS records are authorised:
A – IPv4 address for the redirection of the domain to a specific IP address (for example, 192.0.2.1)
AAAA – IPv6 address, similar to the A record but used if the server is using IPv6 protocol (for example, 2001:db8:85a3::1)
CNAME – synonym used for the redirection of the domain to another domain name. The synonym record cannot be used for the domain itself (for example, gražusvardas.lt cannot have CNAME record, while www.grazusvardas.lt or betkas.grazusvardas.lt – can).
MX – email redirection for the identification of the email server names (instead of the IP addresses) that receive emails.
TXT – textual record. The textual records are usually used for SPF ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework ) and DKIM ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DomainKeys_Identified_Mail ) email records.
SRV – service records used to specify how to reach various services (for example, telephony). This record has a specific format _service._protocol.
CAA – certification records specifying which registrar providing the digital certification services has the right to issue certificates to a specific domain. More information is available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNS_Certification_Authority_Authorization
NS – name server records allow to delegate a third-level domain to other DNS name servers. This DNS server is used if a specific third-level domain has to be delegated and the records have to be managed in other name servers (for example, if eu.grazusvardas.lt is delegated, the record of www.eu.grazusvardas.lt would be managed in the specified DNS name servers).
